FAQs
  • Vascular ultrasound is performed to:

    • Helps our experts to monitor the blood flow to organs and tissues throughout the body.
    • locate and identify blockages (stenosis) and abnormalities like plaque or emboli and help plan for their effective treatment.
    • Detect blood clots (Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) in the major veins of the legs or arms).
    • Determine whether a patient is a good candidate for a procedure such as angioplasty
    • Evaluate the success of procedures that graft or bypass blood vessels.
    • Determine if there is an enlarged artery (aneurysm).
    • Evaluate varicose veins.
  • It is done when indicated and based on clinician referral.

    • Arterial Doppler of upper and lower limbs
    • Venous Doppler of upper and lower limbs ( Varicose veins/ Deep Vein Thrombosis)
    • Carotid studies
    • Pre-transplant Doppler
    • Aorta and renal arteries
    • Pelvic Doppler
  • The specialist performing the ultrasound Scan applies a water based gel over your abdomen or on the region where a specific organ is to be scanned located. Then our expert places a hand-held device named transducer/ probe on that region and moves it around, to detect the images of the organ. In some cases if the images are not clear, the expert may repeat the process to acquire clearer image.

  • A. Our experts would advise fasting for several hours before the test.

  • Vascular studies typically require an average of one hour to complete the scan.

  • This Scan is absolutely safe, since an ultrasound Scan machine uses a simple low frequency sound wave that can penetrate your body, tissues and organ for imaging without any side effects or damage.

  • Vascular Doppler imaging method also has certain limitations. Ultrasound cannot accurately diagnose the intestines and parts that are obscured by the intestines because the sound waves are obstructed by air and vapours. Ultrasound cannot travel through air. In addition, ultrasound also limits the survey in overweight and obese people

  • MediScan is an acknowledged centre of excellence in Asia for fetal medicine. They have helped improve standard of care for pregnancies and have pioneered new assessment metrics and tools to determine the normalcy, safety and viability of the pregnancy. This therefore results in accuracy and reliability of its screening and diagnostic services.
