MediScan Systems was established on 15 August 1982 by Prof S Suresh and Dr Indrani Suresh when ultrasound was still an emerging specialty in India. It was established with the core objectives of Providing high quality scan services Ensuring accurate diagnosis and provide standardized reports. Providing these services to the poor, needy and underprivileged. Since then, MediScan has grown to provide varied services including diagnostic and interventional ultrasound and foetal medicine services. Over the years this institution has become a tertiary referral centre not just from all over the country but from the South Asian region both for antenatal diagnosis and foetal therapy.
When ultrasound was still an emerging speciality in India, Dr Suresh and Dr Indrani Suresh were the first to provide fetal medicine services in the country. Their passion for the unborn child and the constant endeavour to provide high quality preventive and supportive care has ensured that the institution has been in the forefront of many path breaking milestones in the journey of fetal medicine speciality in the Indian subcontinent. The visionary leaders Dr. Suresh and Dr. Indrani Suresh have been instrumental in building a world class fetal diagnostic and treatment center with a multidisciplinary group of experts.
The institution today is being ably guided by Dr. Sudarshan Suresh, the second generation fetal medicine expert and his team. Dr. Sudharshan and his team, firmly guided by the core values of providing Expert and compassionate fetal care continue to innovate and inspire a whole new generation of aspiring fetal medicine practitioners in the country and beyond.
Right from its inception, the diagnosis of congenital malformations has been one of the major areas of interest and research of Mediscan. The need for an indepth understanding of the fetus throughout its lifecycle led to the creation of a first of its kind perinatal pathology and genetics units in the country.
The twins unit was started to help many mothers realise their dream of having a normal child. Over the years this institution has become a tertiary referral centre not just from all over the country but from the South Asian region both for antenatal diagnosis and foetal therapy.
Since the early years Mediscan as an institution has always focussed on training and teaching and establishing centers of excellence. Both Dr Suresh and Dr Indrani Suresh are passionate and exceptional teachers and mentors. Over 7000 doctors, both national and international have been trained at this institution and many have gone back to provide exceptional quality of fetal care at their place of practice. Dr. Suresh is also a distinguished member of the The ISUOG Outreach Committee promoting the education, training and the availability of ultrasound in underserved communities around the world with the goal of enhancing maternal and perinatal health.
From the words of the founder Dr. Suresh, Mediscan is more than just a fetal medicine center. To many, it is the hope of finding a solution to their many health problems.
