This Scan helps us to find the overall wellbeing of the fetus. The size of various organs such as head, abdomen and thigh bone (Femur) are measured and plotted in a graph. The volume of amniotic fluid in which the fetus is surrounded by, is also assessed. This graph is very essential to find the growth of the fetus. The graph indicates if the fetus is a normal, low or high growth foetal baby. This Scan helps the obstetrician to decide on appropriate management of the pregnancy in cases of low or high growth conditions. Additional scans between gestational ages of 34 to 37 weeks may become necessary in case of low or high growth fetus. In some cases a Doppler study may also be required to determine the blood flow to the heart, brain and placenta.
