FAQs
  • Early pregnancy scans are done:

    • To confirm if it is a pregnancy with one or more babies (also referred as embryo)
    • To check the presence of heartbeat of the embryo and therefore to declare that it is a viable pregnancy
    • To identify the gestation of pregnancy (number of weeks)
    • To rule out an abnormal pregnancy where the embryo develops outside, instead of inside the uterus (ectopic pregnancy)
  • Although the Pregnancy may be seen on a Scan from the 6th week, our experts recommend these early scans to be done between the 7th and 12th weeks to ensure that everything is normal.

  • Normally the specialist performing the ultrasound Scan might ask you to drink some water that helps for a good viewing of the baby. A gel is applied over your abdomen and then the sonographer places a hand-held device named transducer/ probe on your belly and moves it around, to detect the images of the developing embryo. In some cases if the images are not clear the expert may recommend a transvaginal Scan. The transvaginal Scan is performed by introducing a transducer / probe into your vagina so that it can detect a better image of the developing embryo.

  • Our experts’ advice you to empty your bladder 90 minutes before exam time. About an hour before exam time consume significant amount of fluid (water, milk, coffee, etc.). We kindly recommend a two-piece, comfortable outfit so we can access your abdomen at ease. You may eat normally prior to having a fetal ultrasound.

  • This Ultrasound imaging method also has certain limitations. Ultrasound cannot accurately diagnose the intestines and parts because the sound waves are obstructed by air and vapours. Ultrasound cannot travel through air. In addition, ultrasound also limits the survey in overweight and obese people. The early pregnancy Scan helps to decide if the embryo has a heartbeat and if it is located in the uterus. This will make the pregnancy viable and therefore gives the reassurance for continuing with the pregnancy.
