Ultrasound scans use high frequency sound waves to capture images and video of the abdominal organs such as liver, gallbladder, kidney, pancreas, spleen and organs such as inferior vena and aorta which are led by blood vessels.

  • Abdominal ultrasound scans helps to determine if there is any problem such as inflammation of the organs, presence of stones in the gall bladder / kidney or presence of cysts / tumours in any of the internal organs in the abdomen or if there is bleeding internally.

  • If our expert suspects that you have any one of these conditions, an abdominal ultrasound may be suggested:

    • Blood clot.
    • Enlarged organ (such as the liver, spleen, or kidneys)
    • Fluid in the abdominal cavity
    • Gallstone
    • Hernia
    • Pancreatitis

  • Based on the symptoms and diagnostic findings of our experts, they might suggest the following scans:

  • The specialist performing the ultrasound Scan applies a water based gel over your abdomen or in the region where a specific organ is to be scanned located. Then our expert places a hand-held device named transducer/ probe on that region and moves it around, to detect the images of the organ. In some cases if the images are not clear the expert may repeat the process to acquire clearer image.

  • a. In order to examine your liver, gallbladder, spleen, and pancreas, aorta, our experts’ advice is to avoid eating for 8 to 12 hours before the abdominal examination.

    b. In order to examine your kidneys, our experts may be asked to drink four to six glasses of water about an hour before the test to fill your bladder. You may be asked to avoid eating for eight to 12 hours before the test to avoid gas build-up in the intestines

    c. You can take medications with a small sip of water. If you are diabetic, please take your insulin.

  • This Ultrasound imaging method also has certain limitations. Ultrasound cannot accurately diagnose the intestines and parts because the sound waves are obstructed by air and vapours. Ultrasound cannot travel through air. Therefore, organs such as stomach, pancreas, and aorta often need to be combined with other imaging methods for diagnosis. With ultrasound, the doctor can only see the outer surface of the bone, not the inside of the bone. In addition, ultrasound also limits the survey in overweight and obese people.
