Fetal Care Research Foundation
Fetal Care Research Foundation (FCRF) is a not-for-profit charitable trust instituted by Dr. S. Suresh as an integral part of Mediscan Systems, an ultrasound diagnostic center for fetal care. Since its inception in 1993, FCRF has been involving in clinical research and subsequently developing strategies for preventive, curative and supportive management of birth defects.
 
   
 
Birth Defects Registry of India
The Birth Defects Registry of India (BDRI) is the incorporated unit of FCRF, founded in the year 2001, to document the incidences of birth defects in India. The estimated baseline prevalence of birth defects would facilitate the concerned authorities evolve appropriate strategies to prevent birth defects in the nation. Birth Defect / congenital anomaly has a wide spectrum, ranging from mild, manageable ones to severe unmanageable ones.
Support group for MPS and other LSDs
FCRF has commissioned a Support Group for MPS for the first time in India in the year 2003. The support group provides its members the best possible supportive care to children afflicted with Lysosomal Storage disorders like Mucopolysaccharidoses / Mucilipidoses, Gaucher, Fabry & Pompe disorders. The support group organizes annual multi-specialty clinic and also a few special clinics for MPS and metablolic disorders every year.
 
  FCRF is also involving in a number of community service programs, some of them worth mentioning are...  
 
Free pregnancy scans for the underprivileged.
Diagnostic investigations including bio-chemical assays, ultrasound, ECHO, MRI/CT etc for children suffering from specific genetic conditions.
Follow up & treatment for children with rare disorders.
Prenatal diagnostic procedures-chorionic villi sampling /amniocentesis for families having affected children to rule out the problem in the fetus.
Intra uterine transfusion for deserving pregnant mothers who have Rh incompatibility.
Follow up clinics for babies found positive for Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) on Newborn Screening
Creating awareness among the masses about birth defects and how to prevent them, through various visual and print media.
